The following courses will be delivered by the Trinity Centre for High
Performance Computing (TCHPC) in February 2012.  They are practical,
hands-on courses which are free and open to all TCD staff or post-graduate
students.

- An Introduction to TCHPC Systems
- An Introduction to Bash Shell Scripting

course.  Places are limited, so early registration is important.

Course Details:

Introduction to TCHPC Systems
-----------------------------

This half-day course is suitable for students and researchers who are new to
TCHPC, and have little experience with resource management software and
batch queueing systems, such as SLURM.

You may also find this course beneficial if you have used the PBS/Torque batch
software previously, and would like to find out how to convert your
submissions scripts to SLURM.

Among the topics covered will be:

- Systems and Service available at TCHPC
- Access to our systems.
- Module Environment.
- Resource Allocation.
- Job submission and monitoring.
- Scheduling policies.

This is a half-day course:

- Tuesday 28th Feburary 09:30 - 13:00

The TCHPC computer lab on the second floor of the Lloyd Building, Room 2.12.


Introduction to Bash Shell Scripting
------------------------------------

This half-day course is suitable for students and researchers who have some
experience with the Linux command-line shell, but would like to get more out
of it and use it more efficiently.

Among the topics covered will be:

- Basic bash script syntax
- Variables
- Conditionals
- Loops
- Useful shell commands

Timetable:

This is a half-day course:

- Wednesday 29th Feburary 09:30 - 13:00

The TCHPC computer lab on the second floor of the Lloyd Building, Room 2.12.


Additional Information
----------------------

- The courses are free to TCD staff and students, but re-registration is
required to secure a place. Email training at tchpc.tcd.ie to book a course.

- Morning sessions commence at 9:30 and continue until 13:00, with a 30
minute break at 11:00.

- Afternoon sessions commence at 14:00 and continue until 17:00 with a
break for about 20 minutes at 15:30.

- Refreshments are not provided during breaks or lunch.
